2013 was a great year for hip-hop. With many new artists from the blog era of rap dropping thought provoking projects and albums that people still talk about to this day. Action Bronson, a rapper from New York whose music first caught my attention after his verse on the incredible posse cut from ASAP Rocky’s debut album, Long. Live. ASAP. Many of the rappers on this record were part of the new renaissance of rap after it going through a strange phase of everyone having a signature dance.

After the Saaab Stories EP and an incredible feature on Mac Miller’s album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, I was highly anticipating Action Bronson’s next project. This next effort from the Queens artist, considered a free album, was fully produced by long time collaborators, Party Supplies and was a follow up to the highly acclaimed project, Blue Chips. This project is everything you wouldn’t expect it to be. Compiled of all type of outlandish samples including an Applebee’s commercial, a song you’d mistake for Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid soundtrack and even a commercial promoting Enbrel, a medication for rheumatoid arthritis.

To say the least without saying too much, this is an album that can only be truly appreciated with a full listen. With the outlandish samples and even more wild and insane lyrics from Action Bronson, the album is a fun experience that forces multiple listens to truly appreciate the body of work from both artists. With incredible features from Mac Miller, Retch, Ab-Soul, and long time friend Meyhem Lauren, the album is nothing short of pure rapping.

Many would say this project is Bronson’s best project and I would agree 100%. A project with so many references that makes you wanna stay on Google just to understand all of them, this is what having fun with rap is. Listening to this album after so many years of appreciating it, it still sounds fresh and to this day, shows us exactly what happens when likeminded individuals come together and make something just out of pure pleasure.

After many years with releases of tv shows, books, numerous musical projects and an incredible weight loss, Action Bronson has continued to show that he is not one to be trifled with. One of few who still shows that you can do so much throughout the years and still have an amazing time doing one of the many things you love.
